I studied graphics and illustration at Harrow and Kingston schools of art and began my career as a freelance illustrator.
In 1990 I moved onto silk as a medium and have been developing its use ever since, producing one off hand painted items ranging from framed pictures, wall hangings and room screens to scarves, necklaces, baskets and cushions.
My work has been exhibited widely throughout the UK; I was a member of the Hampshire and Berkshire Guild of Craftsmen until moving to Devon in 2007. In 2005 I was commissioned by Southampton General Hospital to produce fifteen large scale works for display in various wings.
I also give silk painting workshops both for beginners and the more advanced.
I am excited by organic forms restrained by geometric shapes, and draw inspiration from the colours, forms and patterns of the natural world, juxtaposing these with the manmade.
My work combines unforgiving draughtsmanship and subtle watercolour technique with a passion for textiles.
Resulting creations are detailed and vibrant frequently drawing on marine and botanic themes.
